2 Peter 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
Matthew 24:35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.
But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.
John States at the end of the Bowl judgements:
Revelation 16:15 Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame.
For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.
For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.
These references show the Second Coming of Christ and these are the references that show an element of surprise. There are NO references that are rapture in nature (for those wishing to separate the two events), that show this element of surprise.
These three references 2 Peter 3:10, Rev. 16:15, and 1 Thess. 5:2,3 are the references that refer to Jesus coming as a thief. You cannot separate these events unless the first has the element of surprise, for the first one would declare the second’s timing and presence. Here we know that it is the Second Coming that has this element of surprise.
It is clear that 2 Peter 3:10 and Rev. 16:15 are Second Coming verses due to the context in which the event is placed in surrounding events in Scripture. For this reason some pre-tribbers inform us that 1 Thess. 5:2,3 is also a 2nd coming reference. As stated before, you cannot have two events of Jesus coming as a thief, especially if the first has a 7 year defining of time before the next, giving us an exact timing of the second. Jesus tells us that the “…if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up.” Matt. 24:43
Therefore 1 Thess. 5:2,3 must be a Second Coming verse by the association, “as a thief…” This verse also informs us that the World is stating “peace and safety.” Naturally, those who buy into the pre-trib belief believe that this is speaking of the rapture, and that the rapture is imminent. For the rapture to be imminent, this must be what is the mainstream thinking. However in Obama’s speech an hour ago to the UN he states referring to the situation of world peace, “As bleak as the situation appears, America will not give up on pursuing peace.” The UN is NOT saying “peace and safety” at this time in history.
Obviously, according to the Word of God, the time of “peace and safety” happens after the battle of Armageddon… Rev. 14 Two chapters later the rapture happens… Rev. 16:15 in which Jesus tells us that He will come, as a thief. This is the time in which PEOPLE declare “Peace and Safety” …1 Thess. 5:2,3. It is true that this happens at a time of God’s judgements being poured out. However, God’s judgement are different then the element of war, in which the term “peace and safety” is derived.
