The beginning of Matthew 24 Jesus and the disciples dialogue concerning the temple in Jerusalem. The disciples see its beauty and grand architecture and begin the conversation. Jesus responds and tells of its decimation to the point that one stone would not be left upon another. No doubt, that Jesus’ comment took the disciples by surprise, so they posed the question, “when would these things be?” as well as the question about He coming and the end of the age.
If you believe that the event of the abomination of desolation mentioned in Matt. 24:14-22 is futuristic and not concerning the desolation of the temple as is the context and concerning the question posed, then you must realize that you also believe that Jesus did not respond to their question. Not only did He not blow them off, but He changed the topic from one prophetic event to another.
